Is God a dictator

Christian Jacques Bennett Blog

I was just mulling over whether countries having a dictator is a bad thing.

In the West we tend to use the word "Democracy" as if it is 100% perfect.

The thought of not being able to vote on something, in some way, seems unfathomable.

Yet, there are so many dictator-led countries around the world where the people accept it.

The question is, of course, are the people accepting it, or are they forced to accept it?

As I was mulling all of this over a thought struck me.

I am a firm believer that "God" represents "Everything" we know and do not know, what is and what is not. In some way we are all part of the body of God.

If I believe the latter then does that make "God" a dictator over me and everything else?

I suppose to answer that you have to ask yourself what are the attributes of a dictator?

I found this on Wikipedia:

"Dictatorships are often characterised by some of the following: suspension of elections and civil liberties; proclamation of a state of emergency; rule by decree; repression of political opponents; not abiding by the rule of law procedures, and cult of personality."

Reading that definition, for me, it is clear that God is not a dictator.

Seeing as we are all a part of God it is impossible to say that any of us are not free to vote with our feet and minds. One of the beautiful things about God is that nothing is forced on you. You always get to choose your actions.

So why did I even entertain the idea that God maybe a dictator?

Unfortunately humans by instinct love to use the term "God" as an excuse to control other people. Dictators throughout history have used God to back their sides. They have taken books and misused their wording to enforce their rule of law.

So in essence, it is most definitely not God who is the dictator but occasionally it is the humans who use the name in vain to dictate what they want.

 What do you think?
