Why Duolingo is the best language learning app

I have used Duolingo on and off since it began in 2011.

I started with the free version. It was perfectly good - but - I loved the app so much I wanted to support it.

In 2015, I paid for the Super Duolingo package (it is roughly £50/$60 per annum). By doing so it supports the free language learning cause and gives you a few bonuses, like being able to stay in leagues and keep winning streaks.

Let's get some quick facts:

Duolingo is a free language learning app that has been downloaded over 500 million times. It is available on iOS, Android, and the web. Duolingo uses a gamified approach to learning languages, which makes it fun and engaging (and that is a no BS 💩 statement - it really does!).

And like most popular platforms it does sometimes get tongues wagging when it updates and tweaks it's user experience. In all honesty, they know best. I've been annoyed sometimes but then after using the new version for a few weeks I realise they were right, it's a better version than before.

Here are some of the reasons why Duolingo is the best language learning app:

1. It's free. Duolingo is completely free to use! There are no in-app purchases or subscriptions required.

2. It's easy to use. Duolingo is designed to be easy to use, even for beginners. The lessons are short and simple, and the app provides clear instructions and feedback.

3. It's effective. Duolingo has been shown to be effective in helping people learn new languages. A study by the University of Helsinki found that Duolingo users learned vocabulary and grammar at the same rate as students in a traditional classroom setting.

4. It's fun. Duolingo uses a gamified approach to learning languages, which makes it fun and engaging. Users earn points, badges, and virtual rewards as they progress through the lessons.

5. It's available on multiple platforms. Duolingo is available on iOS, Android, and the web. This means that you can learn a new language on your phone, tablet, or computer. Be aware though that in my experience, weirdly the Android version was better than the Apple version, for example it gave more points and more chances to earn points, however, they update the platform often and this may mean that the opposite is true by the time you read this. Just be warned the platforms tend to offer very slightly different user experiences.

So, if you're looking for a free, easy-to-use, and effective language learning app, then Duolingo is the best option for you. Seriously, I have tried most of the other ones and even paid for some, in the end I always find myself wanting to use Duolingo.

Here are some additional tips for using Duolingo effectively:

1. Set realistic goals. Don't expect to become fluent overnight. Set realistic goals for yourself and celebrate your progress along the way.

2. Be consistent. The key to learning a new language is consistency. Make time to study every day, even if it's just for a few minutes.

3. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes when they're learning a new language. Don't let this discourage you. Just keep practicing and you'll eventually get better.

4. Use other resources. Duolingo is a great resource for learning a new language, but it's not the only one. There are many other great resources available, such as textbooks, online courses, and native speakers.

Obviously you need to put in a little effort, but seriously quickly, 10 minutes or so each day on Duolingo, and you can quickly learn a new language and achieve your language learning goals.
